POSITION TITLE:          Gifted Education Teacher

 

FLSA:                             Exempt

 

QUALIFICATIONS:        Must hold proper state certification

                                     Must be endorsed in Gifted Education

 

REPORTS TO:              Principal and/or other Supervisor

  

                         

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinate identification process including assisting with referrals, securing parent permission, administrating testing, scheduling eligibility meetings, and writing Differentiated Education Plans (DEP).
  2. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers and provide professional development in the area of differentiation (accelerated instructional practices), underserved populations in gifted programs, and writing DEPs effectively.

  3. Provide assistance with best practice instruction for the gifted child in the areas of reading and math.
  4. Coordinate the application/acceptance process for the Southwest Virginia Governor's School.

  5. Coordinate the Advanced Placement testing at Radford High School.
  6. Conduct gifted novel unit instruction in grades 3 -8.
  7. Serve as the chairperson of the Gifted Advisory Committee (agenda, notification to members, facilitating meetings)
  8. Present yearly annual plan to RCPS School Board members.
  9. Publicize opportunities and accomplishments of gifted program through email, web sites, online fall and spring newsletters, brochures, and the local newspaper.
  10. Collect and report yearly data including AP enrollment, Dual Enrollment participants, number of gifted students being served, etc...

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  2. Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  5. Serve on committees as assigned.
  6. Remain current on instructional practices in education.  (e.g. instructional technology)
