Position Title:      Human Resources Generalist

FLSA:                    Full Time, Non-Exempt

Reports to:           Director of Human Resources

Salary Schedule: Office Support Salary Schedule

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the Human Resources and Finance departments through a variety of administrative and operational tasks. In addition to day-to-day responsibilities such as employee onboarding and recordkeeping, this position serves as the primary backup to the Director of Human Resources. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.

Key Responsibilities:

Human Resources Support

  • Serve as the primary backup to the Director of Human Resources for routine operations, communications, and critical HR functions
  • Responsible for onboarding new employees and ensuring completion of required documentation
  • Maintain and organize employee records in a secure and efficient manner
  • Update employee data and process employment changes in personnel systems
  • Assist with employee benefits coordination, including enrollment and record updates
  • Monitor substitute personnel and communications
  • Support compliance and reporting tasks, including state and federal employment reports
  • Assist in managing leave documentation and support communication related to leave policies
  • Assist with tracking and maintaining employee licensure and credentialing in accordance with Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) requirements

Payroll Support

  • Serve as a support and secondary contact for payroll processing, including data entry and verification
  • Help employees with payroll-related updates, such as direct deposit and tax forms
  • Assist with maintaining payroll records, benefits deductions, and payroll reconciliation tasks
  • Provide support for processing payroll-related reports and submissions
  • Serve as a backup for payroll preparation and processing during the absence of finance personnel

General Administrative Duties

  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical handling of sensitive personnel data
  • Attend professional development trainings and department meetings as directed
  • Communicate effectively with staff, applicants, and external partners
  • Support additional administrative or HR-related functions as needed
  • Demonstrate flexibility by stepping in during high-volume periods or when key staff are unavailable

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in human resources, business, or a related field
  • Prior experience in human resources or office administration
  • Strong computer proficiency, including spreadsheets, databases, and email systems
  • High level of accuracy with numerical data and recordkeeping
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
