Supervises: Instructional Assistants if applicable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plans and implements the instructional program for preschool students following the school and school division policies and procedures and the Virginia Foundation Blocks for Early Learning.
  2. Employs a variety of teaching methods and instructional materials using developmentally appropriate practices to meet the range of student abilities and needs, including available instructional technology.
  3. Employs culturally competent instructional practices which value diversity and inclusion.
  4. Is knowledgeable about and utilizes trauma-sensitive practices.
  5. Plans a program that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  6. Teaches student behavior and maintains discipline for a safe learning environment. Models and encourages appropriate behavior standards acceptable in the school community and develops positive behavior interventions for children.
  7. Maintains student records as required by the school, school division, state of Virginia and federal policies, procedures, regulations and laws related to the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI).
  8. Participates in ongoing progress monitoring to assist students in the highest levels of achievement. Follows all school, school division rules and regulations and state and federal laws regarding assessment.
  9. Assists with data collection and report writing needed for state monitoring and reviews.
  10. Effectively communicates with families regarding their child's educational progress via periodic written reports and verbal communications including, but not limited to scheduled progress reports, report cards, and parent/teacher conference days as per school and school division policies and procedures.
  11. Works cooperatively with supervisors and colleagues in order to ensure continuous improvement in providing the highest quality educational program and the safest and most inviting educational environment.
  12. Participates in professional development opportunities for personal and professional growth, including annual mandatory trainings.
  13. Attends meetings as required for planning, development and implementation of RCPS initiatives.
  14. Serves on committees as assigned.
  15. Plans, attends and/or participates in special events as requested by administrators including, but not limited to field trips, school assemblies, events, etc.
  16. Maintains a professional image in the school and the community as a representative of the school division.
  17. Maintains the appropriate license for the assignment in the state of Virginia.
  18. Follows the regulations and policies of the Radford City Public Schools, the laws of the state of Virginia and federal laws.
  19. Other duties as assigned by school administrators.

Minimum Training and Experience

Four year degree from an accredited college or university on the state of Virginia approved list. Hold a Virginia license in the appropriate teaching area or eligibility for a Virginia license with application for the Virginia license within 90 days of employment.
