TITLE:                     Afterschool Youth Enrichment Intern

REPORTS TO:          Afterschool Site Director

RATE OF PAY:         $15.00 per hour, 8 to 15 hours per week

HOURS:                   Mon., Tues., Wed., Fri. 3:20 - 5:30

                               Thurs. 12:30 - 5:30

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The YMCA at Virginia Tech will offer several paid internship positions averaging 8 to 15 hours per week, depending upon intern’s availability. The final schedule is TBD, but will involve a combination of shifts ranging Monday to Friday between the hours of 3:00 – 5:30

p.m. The focus of this work will be delivery of an elementary-aged after-school program for Radford City Public Schools.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Classroom management
    1. Maintain positive classroom dynamics for a class of up to 15 youth
    2. Establish and maintain a professional rapport with participants and their parents
    3. Ensure interactions support positive socio/emotional/cognitive/physical growth and development of participants
  2. Lead program activities
    1. Employ small group dynamics to create an engaging atmosphere and “safe space” for the participants
    2. Lead enrichment activities for youth including but not limited to: educational activities, arts & crafts, and sport & recreational activities
    3. Plan activities and develop a schedule to meet the desired goals of the program
    4. Monitor youth participation and respond appropriately to incidents such as accidents, behavioral issues, etc.
